Market Segmentation Essay
An organization cannot satisfy all the needs and wants of all the consumers. Therefore, Market is divided into different segments so an organization can focus on the needs and wants of the specific consumers who share similar needs and demonstrate similar buyer behavior. In the world, there are different types of buyers with their own needs and behavior. Segmentation is the process to match groups of the purchasers with same needs and wants. Market segmentation: The division of a market into different groups or the process of splitting customers in a market into different groups or segments, within which customers show similar buying behavior and share a similar level of interest in the same set of needs and wants satisfied by a marketer is called Market segmentation. Reasons for segmentation of market: The reason for segmenting a market is to allow your marketing program to focus only on the segment that is most likely to buy your offering. Market segmentation makes possible how to use marketing mix for different target markets. A company is then able to determine which groups of customers are best suited to serve and which product and service offers will meet the needs of the customers and will satisfy them. Therefore, the main objective of segmentation must be how to win and retain the customers you want to serve. If the segmentation process is done properly then it will insure the maximum return for your marketing and sales expenditures, depending on what you are selling and whether you are selling your offerings to individual consumers or a business. Levels of Market Segmentation â⬠¢Segment Marketing â⬠¢Individual Marketing â⬠¢Niche Marketing â⬠¢Local Marketing Segment Marketing: Dividing the market into different segments on the basis of homogenous need. Segmented on basis of broad similarity with regard to some attributes. Segmentation is also sometimes identifying, capturing & retaining potential new markets. Individual Marketing: Extreme marketing in which marketers focus on individual customers. Keep track of individual tastes & preferences of individual customers. Many companies are approaching individuals through e-mails to promote their products. Niche Marketing: Marketerââ¬â¢s effort to position their product or service in smaller markets that have similar attributes and have been neglected by other marketer. Segment further divided into sub segments to cater unsatisfied needs of small group is called as niche. Local Marketing: Marketers offer customized products to suit the local markets. McDonalds introduced ââ¬Å"Muslimizedâ⬠or ââ¬Å"Arabicâ⬠products such as Big Mac, Halal Chicken, Mac Arabia, and moreâ⬠¦ Variables to Segment the Market: There are a number of segmentation variables that allow an organization to divide their market into homogenous groups. These variables will be discussed briefly below: â⬠¢Geographic â⬠¢Demographic â⬠¢Psychographic â⬠¢Behavioral Geographic segmentation It is based on regional variables such as region, climate, population density, and population growth rate. Geographic segmentation divides markets into different geographical areas. Marketers use geographic segmentation because consumers in different parts of world vary in characteristics and behaviors. An area can be divided by the town, the region or the country. If you are an organization working on a global scale you may divide by global regions such as Europe, North America, South America, Asia and Africa. Example: McDonalds globally, sell burgers aimed at local markets, for example, They also offer vegetable burgers in India due to lots of vegetarians and burgers are made from lamb in India rather than beef because of religious issues also. In Mexico more chili sauce is added and so on. In Muslim countries halal food is offered. In Arabic countries Arabic food is offered like Mc Arabia. Demographic Segmentation It is based on variables such as age, gender, ethnicity, education, occupation, income, and family status. Demographics originate from the word ââ¬Ëdemographyââ¬â¢ which means a ââ¬Ëstudy of populationââ¬â¢. The population can be divided into age, gender, income, and family lifecycle amongst other variables. As people age their needs and wants change, some organizations develop specific products aimed at particular age groups. Gender segmentation is commonly used within the cosmetics, clothing and magazine industry. Income segmentation is another strategy used by many organizations Products and services are also aimed at different lifecycle segments. Examples: ïÆ'ËFor different age groups: Nappies for babies, toys for children, clothes for teenagers and so on. Introduction of Maxim, (www.maxim-magazine.co.uk)A male lifestyle magazine covering male fashion, films, cars, sports and technology. Psychographic Segmentation: oIt is based on variables such as values, attitudes, opinions, interests, personality and lifestyle. oIt is used highly in the hospitality industry oVALS (Values And Lifestyles) Principle Oriented- principles or beliefs rather than feelings, events, or desire for approval. Status Oriented- status or other peopleââ¬â¢s actions, approval, or opinions. ï⠧Action Oriented- action prompted by a desire for social or physical activity, variety, and risk taking. Behavioral Segmentation: It is based on variables such as usage rate and patterns, price sensitivity, brand loyalty, and benefits sought. It refers to why people purchase a product or service. How will the product enhance their overall lifestyle? Occasion is another variable. When should a product be purchased? Occasion segmentation aims to increase the ââ¬Ëreason to buy factorââ¬â¢ and thus increase sales. Usage rate divides customers into light, medium and heavy users. Heavy users obviously contribute more to turnover then light or medium users, the objective of an organization should be to attract heavy users who will make a greater contribution to company sales. It is based on benefits people seek when buying a product. It is based on Total satisfaction from a service rather than individual benefits. Examples: When someone is going out to dinner McDonalds and local restaurant will not come in the same breathe for choices of where to go. When purchasing a computer the benefit sought will be of ââ¬Ëease of useââ¬â¢. ïÆ'ËThe demand for turkeys increases during Christmas, flowers and chocolates on motherââ¬â¢s day and so on.

Reflection of “A Letter from Birmingham Jail” by Martin Luther King Jr.
For our honors portfolio this quarter we were required to read three documents. We, then, were quizzed over each of the readings. First, we read ââ¬Å"Letter from a Birmingham Jailâ⬠by Martin Luther King, Jr. , then, we read the transcript of President John F. Kennedyââ¬â¢s inaugural address, and last but not least, we read ââ¬Å"Millennial Makeoverâ⬠by Morley Winograd and Michael Hais. Furthermore, we had to read and analyze the documents because the quizzes required us to think deeper than the written words on the paper. I believe these documents are critical because they have shaped the government and our society today. My favorite of these three documents, if I had to pick, would be ââ¬Å"Letter from a Birmingham Jailâ⬠, not only because I admire Martin Luther King Jr. , but also because this letter is a very powerful and inspiring piece of work. Luther wrote while being confined in a jail in Birmingham, Alabama, for participating in civil rights demonstrati ons. His letter states that he will continue resisting nonviolently against racial discrimination and pleads the readers to see segregation from a different point of view. Moreover, I noticed that he quoted many people including Apostle Paul, St.à Augustine, Reinhold Niebuhr and many others. This made me realize that he most likely had the quotations memorized since he didnââ¬â¢t have access to those sources while imprisoned. He mentions that ââ¬Å"injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhereâ⬠and that ââ¬Å"an unjust law is no law at allâ⬠(Luther). This means that an unjust law causes harm; for example, if it is lawful to torture a certain group of people, then that is not a law whatsoever. This idea of injustice affects many directly, but also affects everyone else indirectly in the fact that prejudice is occurring around them.Furthermore, his words describe in detail what segregation was like and what people like him had to go through. This impacted me b ecause now, the idea of racial discrimination is completely frowned upon, while in the 1900ââ¬â¢s it was something that seemed right and normal. It took years of hard work, bloody massacres, and non-stop action to obtain equality and I hate to see that a little bit of racism still exists today. The idea that immigrants are taking away jobs and opportunities that should be for U. S. citizens, surprises me because this country was founded and created by immigrants.Instead of seeing different countries and different people in one world, we should see the whole world as one, because every human being, no matter what race, has his/her own rights and should have the same opportunities that his neighbor does. Luther is one of the most charismatic and persuasive people in history and has not only inspired many, but also revolutionized a countryââ¬â¢s view. He wrote this letter hoping to stir up some emotion and I think he got his point across in a very non-violent and mature kind of w ay that was unexpected and at the same time, admirable. His stance of a nonviolent action and the desperate cry for an end to social discrimination is as powerful now as it was 50 years ago. We now stand by these liberal values and believe the God has made us all equal and has given us certain rights that no law can take away. Although this was not an easy project, I certainly did learn something from it and it inspired me to stand up for my beliefs, but also, in a way, allowed me to see that anything is possible through hard work.

It is a universal kind of communication, though it may differ with certain cultures, apart from the persons that are autistic. Despite the fact that this form of communication has not had a lot of researchers interest, it has been in use by many populations across the globe as way of communicating attitudes, thoughts, notions and emotions. Despite its having been a major form of communication in the world for a long time, people have not taken time to research on the meanings portrayed by this form of communication as Calero puts it in his book. (Calero, 2005 pp1, 2) Non-verbal communication is very important in every dayââ¬â¢s communication. Most people consider it as a form of distinct speech and that it is basically applied in the passing of the message of interpersonal relationships and emotion. Thus, it can be said to speak louder than words. However, it is very essential to note the fact that non-verbal communication has to go in tandem with speech or verbal forms of communication. Th ey cannot generally be separated, but artificially it is a possibility. By artificially, it means that use of non-verbal communication like gestures (such as hand gestures) may also be viewed as the usage of words as audible ways of sending messages. Non-verbal communication is, therefore, seen as a very integral part of the normal natural language that humans use. (nortonmedia.com, 2011) Negativities of Using Non-verbal Communication Various forms of non-verbal com

My Leadership Development Plan Term Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words
My Leadership Development Plan - Term Paper Example Professionally, I own a private trucking company with a staff of four drivers. Because I aspire to be better in my leadership roles, I am currently pursuing my MBA program at the North Park University in Chicago, Illinois. This will be my key in achieving my goal to be a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) someday. In ten years, I see myself running my own Accountancy firm. Right now, my most prominent leadership role is in my trucking company. Having four trucks, my workers and I search for clients in need of hauling their loads to various places. This entails much responsibility both to my clients and to my workers. I need to ensure that my drivers are efficient and honest in doing their jobs. That means they are physically, mentally and emotionally fit to work especially if they drive the trucks for long hauls. They should also be trustworthy because the clients entrust to our business their precious belongings. My role as a leader is to motivate my workers to deliver high quality p erformance in their work and to ensure customer satisfaction with our services. I would like to believe that I adhere to the Transformational leadership style. Bass (1990)1 explains that transformational leadership style is based on building engagement and participation, leading the team to perform at a better standard than before. In addition, the leader inspires a heightening of awareness about issues of consequence. This awareness keeps the team vigilant to do everything right in order to achieve positive consequences instead of negative ones. Bass (1985) describes the transformational leader as having a vision for the team, self-confidence as well as inner strength to fight for what is ââ¬Å"right or good, not for what is popular or is acceptable according to the established wisdom of timeâ⬠2. I strive to conform to the four dimensions of transformational leadership that Den Hartog et al. (1997) comprises3. Charisma is the first one, with the leader providing vision and mi ssion while instilling pride in his followers thereby gaining respect and trust for himself. He has the ability to increase their optimism. Second come inspiration, which defines if the leader acts as a model, communicates a vision, sets high standards and uses symbols to focus efforts. Next is individual attention to each member. The leader coaches, mentors and provides feedback to each of his followers making sure they are led to the right path. Lastly, dimension of intellectual challenge gives a leaderââ¬â¢s followers a flow of challenging new ideas aimed at rethinking old ways of doing things, challenge flawed systems and promotion of careful problem-solving behaviors. Regarding to the ethical types that influence my ethical decision-making, I learned that primarily, it is deontology and secondarily, it is conformism. This means that my tendency when making ethical decisions is to follow prescribed duties that have been imposed by virtue on a person.4 These are duties to fide lity, or keeping promises made; duties of reparation or compensating for wrong actions done to others; duties of gratitude or repaying others for past favors done; duties of justice or the distribution of goods according to oneââ¬â¢s merits; duties of beneficence or improving the conditions of others; duties of self-improvement or making oneself better; and duties of nonmaleficence or the avoidance and prevention of injury to others. My conformism ethical type refers to my consultation with my family, friends and colleagues before I make an ethical decision. I find their opinions valuable. Considering my strengths and weaknesses is one thing I keep reflecting on in my journey as a leader. As I move forward, I am confident that I am in control of my family and am doing a

In your study team you are required to analyse the UK Brewing Essay
In your study team you are required to analyse the UK Brewing industry. You have been provided with a report prepared by the Bri - Essay Example Further, governments are levying more and more taxes on this industry to regulate the monetary crisis. UK BEER INDUSTRY Beer is called the national drink of UK. However, the present statistics have reported that beer consumption has decreased in UK by 3.1% in last 12 months (BBPA, 2008, p. 3). This reduction in the consumption of beer is causing UK brewing industries to downsize and even close their breweries. There are a number of key factors that are causing the decrease in the rate of consumption of beer. Major factors causing the shift in consumption patterns can be categorized into change in trends, financial, political and economic issues. FACTORS AFFECTING UK BEER INDUSTRY CHANGE OF TRENDS The rate of beer consumption in UK has been affected hugely by the shift in trends that has resulted into a change of preferences. According to BBPAââ¬â¢s report, ââ¬Å"Since 1979, per capita consumption of beer has fallen by 33 per cent.â⬠(BBPA, 2008, p. 3) It further stated that ââ¬Å"men fell from 17.2 units a week in 1998 to 14.9 in 2006. By women, it fell from 6.5 units to 6.3, having been at 7.6 in 2002â⬠(BBPA, 2008, p. 8). ... Beer used to be a popular drink a century ago, but today the introduction of sodas, various juices and drinks have lessened its charm and popularity despite being UKââ¬â¢s national drink. 2. Demographic Shift The migration and settlement of the people from all over the world in UK can also be regarded as an important factor in lowering the rate of consumption of beer. The ever increasing population of Muslims in UK has also resulted in the reduction of alcohol consumption as Muslims refrain from drinking beer and other alcoholic products. 3. Ban The ban on alcohol consumption within workplaces is also affecting the sale of beer. A restriction on drinking alcoholic products while travelling has also led to a reduction in the sales of beer as a lesser number of people want to go against the law. Though there are toasts raised and wines served in social gatherings and business parties, the average decrease is quite prominent. 4. Health Consciousness The increase in the health conscio usness is also causing people to avoid drinking alcohol. It is further promoted by anti drug agencies and nutritionists who regard alcohol as an additional burden on the wallet, a threat to lives of drinkers and the people around them, and a ticket to oneââ¬â¢s journey to prison cells. FINANCIAL ISSUES Along with the changing trends, financial issues are affecting the brewing industry badly. People have found things more important to buy than a pint of beer. Beer is now considered as a luxury since it has become extremely expensive due to the imposition of new government regulations. Major factors contributing to the financial issues causing lesser consumption of beer include the ever increasing prices of beer, lesser affordability due to unemployment and
